Codenamed Acer F1, the most exciting new device will run on the Windows Mobile 6.5 OS. There is still some i-dotting and t-crossing to do there so the launch date in September, promised by Acer is probably the best we could have hoped for.

A tipster tells us that the device you’re looking at here is Sony Ericsson’s codename “Vulcan” — better known as the X2 — which would presumably replace the X1 at some point in the next few days, weeks, months, or years. Though the picture’s small, you can clearly make out the X Panel button in the lower left of the phone’s front and a Windows key in the upper left of the keyboard, which adds a dose of credibility — the company has, after all, put quite a bit of time and effort into pimping its panel interface SDK, and right now, the X1 is the only device that supports it. The image looks a little rough around the edges, but we can easily chalk that up to this being either a composite mockup or a very early prototype combined with the fact that our tipster seems to have blanked out the surroundings to protect the source. We’re not saying it’s definitely real, but this certainly looks plausible — we’re just not convinced yet that it looks better than the model it’d replace

Nokia’s True iPhone Killer real touch screen magic by nokia better then 5800 & N96

So, guess what Nokia came up with as a follow up for their Nokia 5800 XpressMusic Touchscreen phone? The Nokia N97, a Google G1 phone look-alike that sports a 3.5 inch touchscreen and a slide-out QWERTY keyboard.

Design

The Nokia N97 looks like a cross between a lot of different phones from the iPhone to the Google G1 Phone to the AT&T Tilt (HTC TyTN II). Up front, the Nokia N97’s 3.5 inch screen dominates the whole front of the phone except for the little button on the bottom left side corner which serves as the shortcut key to the N series multimedia applications. The call and end buttons are touch sensitive like ROKR E8. On the top of the Nokia N97 is the 3.5mm headphone jack and the power button. The Nokia N97 is just a tad bit larger and thicker than the iPhone and when you slide out the QWERTY keypad, you’re reminded of the HTC TyTN II with it’s angled screen. The Nokia N97 feels solid enough to hold though it just feels a bit too large especially if you have small hands. The QWERTY keypad is evenly spaced and you won’t have trouble typing nor would you have to worry about pressing two buttons at a time. The buttons are very minimal compared with other QWERTY keypads from HTC or Blackberry. I guess this is to make room for the directional pad on the left side. The sliding mechanism feels solid enough though I’m a bit worried about the hinge that connects the screen and the keypad since it looks thin and breakable.

Features and Performance

The performance of the Nokia N97 is based purely on the demo version but I have to say I’m quite impressed. It looks like Nokia has fine tuned the Symbian OS to work well with touchscreen. On the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic, you won’t get much of the swiping and flicking finger action but they’ve refined it so that you can get that much out of the Nokia N97. Also, compared with the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic demo version, the Nokia N97 interface is quite fast and responsive. You can barely see any hiccup on the accelerometer transition or when you’re navigating the Symbian OS. The user interface on the Nokia N97 is also quite new but is still very user-friendly. Like I said, it’s touch optimized and there are a lot of widgets you can play with. The built-in browser also looks promising though I wasn’t able to see if it supports YouTube desktop PC version. Scrolling through webpages isn’t as smooth and fluid as when you’re surfing the Safari Browser on the iPhone but the webpages renders quickly though I don’t know if that’s because the pages that the person demonstrating the phone is already saved and bookmarked on the phone’s memory.

The Nokia N97 also supports TV Out, WiFi, GPS, Bluetooth, GPS, FM radio, and a 5 megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss optics. If the camera on the Nokia N97 is as good as that on the Nokia N95 then I’m sure that the Nokia N97 won’t have any problems when it comes to its camera software. The Nokia N97 runs on Quadband GSM networks and supports 3G/HSDPA.

It’s just too bad that Nokia decided to go with Resistive touchcreen instead of capacitive like that on the iPhone. I’m sure with a bit of development, they’ll be able to come up with a lot of good applications that can make use of capacitive touchscreen.

Outlook

Hmm, looks like Nokia got it right on their second try. I like the Nokia N97 better than their Nokia 5800 XpressMusic and I hope that they’ll be able to incorporate the user interface of the N97 on the 5800 XpressMusic though I highly doubt that since the Nokia N97 is aimed at the high end market while the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic borders on the midrange to high-end phone segment. From the looks of the demo version, the Nokia N97 looks promising enough. It’s fast and responsive. I don’t know what processor or RAM they’ve used on this device but I guess they were able to make use of the new Symbian OS. All in all, it looks like the iPhone, Google G1 Phone and the Blackberry Storm has a new competitor to watch out for. And knowing that there are a lot of Nokia fanatics, I think that the Nokia N97 will definitely take a large part of the smartphone market.

There are quite a few devices we’re expecting Sony Ericsson to announce. BeiBei, Paris, Shino and now another device is included in the mix. A handset codenamed “Alicia” is a stylish Walkman clamshell with two displays. And while we don’t have enough information about this phone at the moment, we do know its outer screen won’t be used only for displaying caller ID — it will feature some nice Walkman animations or the current weather condition, changing the theme depending on the time of the day. In addition, we know this baby will support TrackID and will be capable to playback both music and video files.

Finally, before I let you go, you should see the first demo video of the device. It just arrived and it’s waiting for you after the jump. Enjoy!

The Thunder also known as BlackBerry 9500 will feature a huge 360×480 touch display and will apparently run on OS 4.7. This device will be a great multimedia player and could bring CDMA carriers true iPhone competition. The Thunder will run a carrier music store which similar to the iPhone’s iTunes store and will allow users to purchase songs from their device. The display on the Thunder most likely will be a glass surface similar to the iPhone. Click on over for another shot…

Here are some new images of the BlackBerry 9500, known as Thunder, running version 4.7 of the BlackBerry OS. This will be the first touch screen enabled BlackBerry and from the looks of it RIM is trying to further increase their reach into the consumer space by appealing to the multimedia crowd. You can’t really tell how tight it’s going to be by just these few pictures, but hey, someone out there is going to use this as flame bait in an online forum. The screen has a 480×360 pixel display and the key selling point is that it will tie into an operators’ existing music store offering.

The BlackBerry Thunder will also feature a portrait media player for watching movies and videos taken with the handset. Well that’s it for now…

The new iPhone 3G that available in 8GB and 16GB versions will be available in coming July 11 for $199 and $299, respectively.

Apple’s iPhone 3G Facts

Full plastic back
Maybe to avoid the scratches, fingerprints, and grime. But Apple usually upgrades its products by replacing plastic with metal; it’s hard to imagine the company going the other direction unless it had a motive unrelated to aesthetics. Maybe they did this to reduce the new iPhone dimensions at the edges than its predecessor, Apple’s official depth spec for the iPhone 3G is 12.3mm, versus 11.6mm for the original iPhone.) Maybe the metal had an issue with GPS reception? Or Maybe Apple simply had to go with less costly materials when it has now dropped the cost of the iPhone to half.

Bigger Memory in iphone
Since the iPhone-like iPod Touch already comes in a $499 32GB version, Maybe 32MB iPhone is in its making. But I’d be equally surprised if a 64GB iPhone showed up before mid-2009 or so, given the still-imposing cost for that much flash memory.
